UN GLOBAL COMPACT LEADERS SUMMIT

It was a unique experience and great honor for mr Ioannis Maronitis, president of the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands, Member of the EB WFUCA and CEO-General President INTERNATIONAL ACTION ART to participate in UN GLOBAL COMPACT LEADERS SUMMIT. Mr Maronitis reported on how Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands and INTERNATIONAL ACTION ART, with their small potential, work hard to achieve the goals of sustainable UN development to make the world a better place by 2030. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, these efforts to create better conditions for the future of humanity became more challenging and we need to work even harder and all together on the following goals:

1. NO POVERTY
2. ZERO HUNGER
3. GOOD HEALTH AND WELL BEING
4. QUALITY EDUCATION
5. GOOD JOBS AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
6. CLIMATE ACTION
7. PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS

At the same time, mr Ioannis Maronitis mentioned that the biggest victim of covid-19 pandemic is culture. 10% of museums that closed due to pandemic will not reopen. Their financial situation will be affected for a lot of years.
Mr Maronitis also wondered if Cultural institutions, companies and social strustures against poverty are going to have a special operating protocol. About theaters, Festivals, Seminars, Museums, theater schools, Cinemas and Concerts, under what circumstances, conditions and operating rules are going to reopen. What about Cultural Tourism? The culture is the heart of tourism development policy. Cultural tourism includes tourism in urban areas, especially in historic, large cities and cultural facilities such as museums and theaters.Cultural tourism is the fastest growing product on the global tourism industry.
Will it continue to be a powerful tool of the economy?
This is the start of the Decade of Action of the Sustainable Development Goals, COVID-19 is a real challenge. We have to come together in solidarity to get over pandemic.
